Driving from Phoenix, AZ to SoCal there are two cool stops along the way to get out and stretch your legs.
The Blythe Intaglios
I have to thank Atlas Obscura for this one. Fifteen miles off the main highway there are several elevated mesas, some of which have human and animal shaped drawings, etched into the desert.
They were designed to be viewed from the sky, so they don’t photograph well, but they’re pretty amazing to see in person because of how enormous they are.
Joshua Tree Wildflower Blooms
It’s been an unusually cold and rainy winter this year in Southern California, so you know what that means, beautiful wildflowers. Not far from the 10 freeway, just off of Cottonwood Rd., you don’t have to drive very far to see wildflowers everywhere.
I had never seen anything like it out in the desert. Absolutely stunning.
