One of my favorite things to do, when the winter weather in SoCal is just right, is head up to the local mountains and play in the snow. To catch the snow, you need to wait for a week that is icy cold and rainy. Then look north to see what Mount Baldy looks like. The conditions are only right a couple times a year, so keep your winter weekend mornings open.
I like going to Mount Baldy because you can climb very quickly. You’ll go from 2,000 to 4,000 feet in about 20 minutes when there’s no traffic. It’s best to go early and beat the crowds, otherwise good luck getting parking.
You’ll need an adventure pass, which costs $5. If you pack your own snacks and hot cocoa like we did, it’s a pretty cheap fun date.
This last time, we took Dino. He’s never been in the snow before so we weren’t sure what he would do. Once he got used to his boots, he had the best time.
